Deregister an eenmanszaak

Find out how to deregister an eenmanszaak. What are the consequences?

Do you want to end your eenmanszaak (sole proprietorship)? Then you must deregister it with KVK. You can do this online with your DigiD. Deregistration is free.

Deregistration is final, and it has consequences. So read the steps carefully first.

Before you deregister

First check whether deregistration is really necessary.

This is how deregistration works

1. Check whether you have arranged everything

You often have a lot to arrange when you are going to end a business. Deregistering is the last step. So first read the ending your business checklist to make sure you are prepared.

2. Choose a deregistration date

When you deregister, give a date on which your eenmanszaak ceases to exist. You must have ended all your business activities on that date.

3. Notify KVK of the deregistration

You can deregister your sole proprietorship via My KVK. All you need is your DigiD. Deregistering is free of charge.

4. KVK deregisters the eenmanszaak

We do this on the date you gave us. This is what you can expect:

  • Within 2 working days, the deregistration is entered in the Business Register.
  • Within 2 weeks, you will receive a letter from KVK. Keep this as proof of your deregistration.
  • We will pass your deregistration on to the Netherlands Tax Administration.
  • The Tax Administration will send you a letter about your final VAT return. Please note: Keep filing your returns as long as they are listed in the Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk portal. This way you can avoid a fine.

FAQs about deregistering a sole proprietorship

Without DigiD you can not deregister online. You must deregister via post using Form 14. Download the form and fill it in. Then print and sign it and post it to KVK. You must also send a copy of a valid proof of ID.

No, KVK will do that for you. You will then automatically receive a letter from the Tax Administration.

When you deregister your business, your KVK number will no longer be active. This may have consequences, for example, for your business bank account, telephone subscription, benefits, insurance, and pension fund. Take a look at the Ending your business checklist before deregistering your business.

You must continue to file returns as long as you can see tax returns in Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk. You will receive a letter about your last VAT return. After that, your obligation to file VAT returns will end. For income tax, you must still file a return for the year after deregistration.

It is not possible to put your business on hold. Sometimes you may have to stop your business temporarily. For example, for a study, a (temporary) job, or to travel. Read what you need to arrange depending on your situation

How quickly we process your change depends on how you communicate your change to us. We process a change you make online faster than a change by post. Check the current processing times on our website. Follow the progress of your online change in My KVK.

The change is not correct

If the information you provide is not correct, we will contact you.

Changes for a date in the future
