Deregistering a company or legal entity

If you end your business or legal entity, you must deregister from the Commercial Register.

To deregister from the Commercial Register (Handelsregister) at KVK, you can use the online procedure (in Dutch) or the form Termination of a legal entity

To deregister a branch office, you can use form 14: Business branch details.

To deregister an official (for example a board member, partner, trustee, or an officer authorised to sign), you can use form 16: An official’s details.

Dissolve legal entities first

You must dissolve legal entities before you can deregister them. These are legal entities:

  • Private limited companies (bv);
  • Public limited companies (nv);
  • Cooperatives;
  • Mutual insurance societies;
  • Associations;
  • Foundations.

Use the form 17a: Dissolution of a company, legal entity or partnership to report the dissolution of a legal entity. The factsheet Dissolving legal entities (pdf, in Dutch) gives you more information on the dissolving of a legal entity.
