Professional legal representatives sometimes encounter threats, violence, or intimidation in the course of their work. This is particularly common among clients who are at increased risk, such as people with mental health problems, a criminal record, or who are subject to a hospital order. These representatives often have to deliver bad news about financial matters. This can lead to verbal and physical threats against the professional legal representative. If such threats are to be expected, the visiting address of the company or legal entity (with the exception of a BV or NV) can be shielded in the Business Register. To this end, the professional organisation of the representatives and the KVK must make agreements together. Aegis and the KVK have set out these agreements in a covenant.
