Access to UBO Register for vennootschappen to become quicker and easier

KVK is expanding the options for accessing the UBO register for vennootschappen for recognised Wwft and sanctions institutions. The expansion makes it easier to view UBO data securely and reliably.

What will change?

Until now, sanctions institutions and institutions authorised under the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act (Wet ter voorkoming van witwassen en het financieren van terrorisme, WWFT, in Dutch), have only been able to obtain an extract from the UBO Register with a subscription to the KVK Data Service. This will change on 1 April 2026, when the options for viewing data from the register will be expanded.

From then on, you will be able to request a digitally certified UBO extract (PDF) through new channels:

  • via an API link
  • via the KVK website

Regular checks

Do you regularly need data from the UBO register? Then use the KVK API. If you only consult the UBO register occasionally, access via the KVK website is a good option. If you already subscribe to the KVK Data Service, you will retain access and do not need to take any action at this time.

Request access to the UBO register

KVK will invite organisations in stages via their sector organisation. As soon as it is your sector’s turn, you will receive a message from KVK via your sector organisation with further details about the authorisation process. You can then apply for access. KVK is starting with civil-law notaries and banks. Keep an eye on this page for updates.

Retrieving data via data fields

Would you prefer to receive UBO data via structured data fields instead of a PDF? Then we recommend waiting for the UBO API 2.0. This is a link via the JSON API.

FAQ about the UBO Register

All European countries must have a UBO register. KVK maintains this register in the Netherlands.

It shows who makes the decisions in an organisation and benefits the most. For example, if profits are made.

It can also help organisations such as the police investigate fraud.

The UBO Register for businesses is for the UBOs who are co-owners of a business (the partners). The UBO Register for Trusts contains information on foreign trusts. The UBO Register forms part of the Business Register. The UBO Register for Trusts is a separate register with its own website: www.uboregistertrusts.nl.

All parties subject to the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act (Wwft) obligation and who have access to UBO data are required to report any data that is incorrect. We refer to this as ‘reporting back’. It is a legal obligation. This includes UBOs who are not listed in the UBO register. Or people who are listed in the register but are not UBOs. You must also submit a correction if an incorrect interest is listed for a UBO, or if the size of that interest is incorrect.

KVK cannot grant authorisation to all recognised Wwft and sanctions institutions at the same time. Civil-law notaries and banks are the first to be able to apply for authorisation. At present, it is not yet known in what order the other sectors will be able to apply for authorisation. As soon as it is a sector’s turn, KVK will inform the relevant sector organisation. Organisations will be notified via their sector organisation once there is more clarity. If you are not a member of a sector organisation, please keep an eye on this website for updates on when other organisations can apply for access.

Yes, KVK only informs the sector organisation. The sector organisation then informs its member organisations that they can apply for access to the UBO register.

KVK expects a high volume of applications. Authorisations are granted with due care, which means the process takes time. To reduce the processing time for authorisations, we are approaching sectors in phases.

The UBO register shows who the UBOs (Ultimate Beneficial Owners) of an organisation are. UBOs are the owners of an organisation or the people authorised to make the final decisions within an organisation. For example, because they hold more than 25% of the shares or are members of the board.

The UBO extract is a digitally certified PDF file. There are no separate data fields that can be imported. Would you prefer to receive UBO data via structured data fields rather than a PDF? If so, we recommend waiting for the API-UBO 2.0, which will become available in 2027. This API-UBO 2.0 is an interface that will also provide a JSON format.

The processing time cannot be determined in advance. This depends on the completeness of the application and the number of applications within that sector. KVK will notify organisations as soon as authorisation has been granted.
