Why?
Before you start using a company or brand name, you need to make sure it is not already in use by a different company. If you do not do so, it may turn out later that your company or brand name is very similar to or the same as that of a different company. That is confusing and it is forbidden.
How does it work?
Put the name you came up with in the search bar of the Name Checker. The Name Checker checks whether the name already appears in the KVK Business Register and the BOIP Trademark Register. Is the name already in one of these registers? Then you may need to come up with another name for your business.
For whom?
Your company or trade name is your official name. It cannot be confusing. A company name is confusing if it is the same as that of a different company, for example. Or if it is very similar. The Name Checker helps starting businesses come up with a good company name.
The Name Checker allows you to search the KVK Business Register and the BOIP Trademark Register at the same time. These registers list all company and brand names that have already been registered by others.
