Why are your business details 'under review'?

Is this sentence in your business's or organisation's Business Register Extract: ‘Voor deze inschrijving is een gegeven in onderzoek’ (For this registration, a detail is under review)? It means KVK has received a notification that some details are not correct.

When we receive such a notification, we are legally obliged to start a review. We do everything we can to make sure the listing in the Business Register is correct. But you yourself remain responsible for the correctness of your details in the Business Register.

How does such a review work?

To review the details, we start at your business or organisation. We send you a letter that tells you what you have to do to make us remove the text 'in onderzoek' (under review).

Suppose we receive a notification from the municipality. They have good reason to doubt whether your business is actually located at the address listed in the Business Register. We will send you a letter asking you to check your details and provide the correct information.

Is the visiting address listed in the Business Register correct? If so, please send us the evidence we have asked for in the letter. For example:

  • a recent rental agreement
  • proof of rent payment
  • a recent energy contract

Once we have received convincing evidence, we will close the report and remove the text 'in onderzoek'.

Is the visiting address no longer correct? Then report the change. As soon as the change has been entered into the Business Register, we will close the report and remove the text 'in onderzoek'.

What are the drawbacks of having your data ‘in onderzoek’?

As long as the review is ongoing, every extract from the Business Register will include the following text alongside your business’s or organisation’s details: 'Voor deze inschrijving is een gegeven in onderzoek’ (For this registration, a detail is under review). The extract will specify which piece of information is under review. Anyone requesting a Business Register extract for your business or organisation will see this message. We do not disclose why a piece of information is under review or how far along we are with the review.

People who wish to do business with you – such as customers or suppliers – may find it suspicious that a piece of information is under review. The same applies to banks, insurers, or businesses with which you enter into a contract or take out a subscription. They may have doubts about your reliability: why is the information ‘under investigation’? That is why it is important to respond as quickly as possible to the questions we ask you. This will allow the review to be completed more quickly and the notification to be removed.

Details must be correct

The information in the Business Register must be accurate. If a business fails to report changes, the information in the Business Register still applies. This is known as the ‘third-party effect’ and is set out in the Business Register Act 2007 (Handelsregisterwet).

So be sure to check the details of your business or organisation on a regular basis.
