Do you dream of launching your own fashion brand and setting up your own business? Annebel has just completed her studies at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute and hopes to realise her entrepreneurial dream in the future. Today, she is shadowing fashion entrepreneur Liseth van der Lee to get a behind-the-scenes look at this versatile businesswoman’s work.
Three years ago, Liseth started out in a small room, setting out to transform the world of vintage fashion. She began online, but soon opened a shop and set up her own workshop. Liseth is always on the lookout for beautiful vintage pieces, which she alters by hand to create new garments. Sustainability plays a key role in this. To get a taste of entrepreneurship, Annebel is given a task by Liseth to develop a concept for her own brand. How will Annebel tackle this? And could this assignment be the start of her own jeans line? Watch the third episode of Jong Ondernemen.
Annebel van Beveren’s work placement with Liseth van der Lee
Student Annebel van Beveren pays a visit to entrepreneur Liseth van der Lee. Together with Andrea Garcia, she owns the (online) fashion company ENSÕ Vintage. In this video, you will see Annebel visiting the workshop and the shop, and getting to know the world of sustainable fashion. You will also follow her approach to the assignment. Annebel wants to become a fashion entrepreneur – will she still want to do so after this assignment?
Annebel’s key takeaways
What did Annebel learn from her entrepreneurship placement? Her five key takeaways:
- Make sure you have a clear vision. That is the foundation you can fall back on in everything you do.
- Unfortunately, running a business is not always a bed of roses; sometimes you have to do less enjoyable tasks, such as admin.
- A network is absolutely vital. Involve these people right from the start of your business.
- The start of your business is likely to be chaotic and not quite what you imagined, but eventually everything will fall into place.
- Entrepreneurship is hard work, but you get a lot in return. For example, the freedom to choose what you do, where, and when.
