An elevator pitch is a catchy introduction about you and your business. It helps you attract potential customers to your product or services. Read here how to make a pitch and when to use it.
With an elevator pitch you tell the most important information about yourself and your business in 40 to 60 seconds. Imagine you are standing in an elevator. Before it reaches the top floor, you have convinced your companion(s) in the elevator of your product or service. Your pitch is so short and concise that you hold your listener's attention. In a short time, your listener will know what you have to offer and what problem you are solving.
The components of your pitch
Build your pitch in a few steps. Make sure these steps add up to an easy-to-follow story:
De components | Example |
Who are you, what do you do, and for whom? | Hello, I am Joep Jansen and I am a singer at my own entertainment agency Joep's Party. We provide the music for every party |
What problem do you solve for your customers and how? |
No need to worry about your party being a success. We have a DJ for you, a singer, or a band who know all exactly how to entertain your guests. |
Why you and not your competitor? |
As the only one in the region, we take care of everything for you: from music to equipment and lighting. And if you want, even an illuminated dance floor. |
Optional: you can link it to a trend, something catchy, a current event, or numbers? |
I have a flyer with a link to a video in which you can see and hear exactly what we all have to offer. Our customers give us a 9.5! |
What kind of follow-up do you want to come from this pitch? |
If you are throwing a party soon, give me a call. Together we will see how we can make it a great party within your budget. |
How can they reach you? |
Here is my flyer, with the link to the video and my contact details. Or take a look at joepsfeest.co.uk. |

Use your elevator pitch
Tell as many people as possible who you are and what you do. Even if the person you are talking to is not a potential customer: they may have an employer or an aunt or neighbour who is looking for your service or product. Maybe not right away, but at another time. Use your pitch on these occasions, for example:
- at a networking meeting
- your new neighbour's housewarming party
- when you meet new people at a trade fair
- when you are talking to parents in the schoolyard.
