Change or add business activity

Do you want to change your business activities or add an activity? You can do this online via My KVK. KVK uses your activities to determine the SBI code of your business or organisation.

What are business activities and SBI codes?

What your business or organisation does is your business activity. For example, building houses, selling shoes, or accounting work for SMEs. If your business activities change, you have to report the change to us within 1 week.
KVK uses the description of your business activities to determine the SBI codes with which your business or organisation must be listed in the Business Register.

Why is it important that your business activities and SBI codes are correct?

It is important that your details in the Business Register are correct. The government, banks, and insurance companies use the SBI code to know in which sector or industry your business or organisation is active.

If your SBI code is incorrect, it may lead to:

  • a wrong insurance premium and coverage;
  • delays in subsidy applications;
  • misunderstandings and miscommunications when applying for permits or tenders.

When should you change your business activities listing?

You should add or change a business activity if:

  • you are going to do something new (for example, offer a different product or service)
  • you are ending an activity
  • your main business activity changes

This is how you change your business activities in My KVK

Everybody registered in the Business Register can log into My KVK. Changing or adding a business activity is free of charge.

What happens after you have reported the change?

Here is what you can expect:

  • Once the change is registered in the Business Register, you will receive a letter from KVK. Keep this letter as proof of the change.
